The great adventure of a wild mustang named Ojai

Ojai the cute filly born in the Pryor Mountains of Montana, an innocent little wild horse who didn’t know what life was throwing at her.

Running in the Pryor Mountains of Montana for the first year of her life, she soon would have her first human encounter …

In August 2015, the BLM organized a capture of the horses living in the Pryor Mountains by bait trapping them.

Ojai, was one of the curious ones, that stepped into the trap and never got to see her family and her mountains again.

She was offered for adoption by the BLM and after a few days, she caught the eye of a French girl, Mary, with big ambition. She was not only a pretty filly; Ojai carries rare and unique bloodlines that go all the way back the Spanish horses brought in the New World by the Conquistadores. She is a prime example of the classic Pryor Mustang.

But her adoption was easier said then done. Mary needed the support of an American family that was willing to help her get Ojai to France.

Luckily, Steve and Nancy gave a loving home to Ojai during a year with all the care, attention, and education that the little wild filly needed to adapt to her new life.

In October 2016, Ojai was ready and set to start her next big adventure: travel all the way to France. After flying across the ocean, Ojai arrived safely to south of France, where her new life and herd were waiting for her.

She adapted to her new surroundings very quickly and was welcomed by the members of the herd, Spanish Mustangs mares.

It has been an amazing journey with Ojai since then: the Pryor Mustang mare living in the south of France, is now an ambassador to the last of a very endangered horse breed. She sensitizes the French and European public to the wild mustang cause and especially the rare Spanish Mustangs bloodlines.
